RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)
Bummer about the user name thing if you have a space in it.. I was able to get on the new site after resetting password.
Trying to navigate the new site and seems like it's all there from rv.net, but very different interface for sure.
Still getting used to it. I guess the old "new posts" is what is called "trending" now..
I'll give it a shot, but wonder if any new posts to here end up there too? I guess I'll find that out after this post. :)

RE: Heavy-duty short bed ...
Thanks Mitch -- looks like we're right :) And the crazy prices that flooded the market in 2020 due to pandemic will never return to anything reasonable.
During my search, I also noticed if you want one specific upgrade, you have to buy five other things you don't want or need. That hasn't changed. Will look at the Ford SD you mentioned.
Yeah, I can probably sell my 2013 for not much less than I paid for it brand new!
But getting something to replace it... Well that's the rub... :)
Same with my house. It's paid for, I can get triple what I paid for it some 25 years ago, but then I'd have to pay double that to get into anything else equal to it.... Mitch

RE: Heavy-duty short bed ...
Looks like you can only get the reg cab with the 8' bed. I just tried Ford and if you select reg cab and try to click on the 6' bed, it says no...
You can get the "Super Cab" which is the smaller of the bunch and basically the same wheelbase as the reg cab long bed.
Chevy and Ram looks like they only offer the full 4 door if you want the short bed. You can get a reg cab long bed in any make...
Just pop for the F250 "Super Cab" and short box and be done... :)
Having that shorter, yet more space behind you is great! No passengers, but will hold any small critter or your other stuff in the cab and not be a full 4 door rig.
I don't think the current "1/2 ton" models that you can get in a reg cab short bed will have anywhere the capacity to handle even a small slide in camper..
Upgrading tires/wheels/suspension will never make up the listed GVWR of that rig..
I have not shopped for new rigs for about 10 years now, and they now all seem to start at > $45K for the most basic, "work truck" model.... Ugh...
Guess I better keep my current rig going until I die because I ain't got enough $$ to get anything else at this point! :)
Good luck! Mitch

RE: How to handle RV house battery? / sparkles flying
Have you cleaned each post and cable end of those 6v batts?
That's where I would go next just to eliminate a dirty connection even thou they are "tight".
Then confirm that your neg batt disconnect is on the neg cable that goes to the rig.
Other than that, no idea??
Good luck! Mitch

RE: Pass through storage on an Arctic Fox 32a
Not sure on the inside dimensions, but here is a pic of the size of the doors on that year/model I found on the internet.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?
I'd keep the one you have and drive it until it hits 250k miles. My last truck I drove for 20 years and 268k miles. Never any internal engine or trans issues.
As long as it stays reliable, I'd rather put the money in a camper, boat, or invest.
That's what I was thinking too. :)

RE: Why doesn’t my signature appear?
Make sure you have the check box checked for "Append my signature" that's under the "quick reply" window when replying to posts.
I think there is the same check box for when you start new posts too.

RE: Wax on Wax Off?
I've been using a foam cannon with the "ceramic" wax mixed in with the soap and it does a pretty good job on the trailer. Originally got it for the cars and it does a great job on them too so figured I'd try it on the trailer.
Makes washing so much easier. Just spray it on, use the washing brush to wash it then rinse it off. No more buckets to fill/haul around.
Setting up the pressure washer is about the only thing that takes time, but I've got the quick connect hose fittings on it, so not a big deal.

RE: Inverter draw from battery for residential fridge
If you only have a single 12v battery I can't see that lasting very long without some additional charging the whole time it's running?
Look into the LI batteries out there now.
You say you don't have room for a second battery? Humm... 41 foot TT should have some room on the tongue for more batt capacity?
My little 26' TT has 2 batts from factory. I can add more if needed, but my needs do not require that at this point.
Good luck! Mitch

RE: Sensitive headlight sensor
I know it's a special feature of the truck.. My 2013 F150 has that too... I think I used it once.. It turns on when it's in the garage.. I park the truck in the garage. Didn't want that to happen every time I started the truck in the garage.
Just went back to my roots and turn them on when it's needed and turn them off when not. :)
Not trying to be snarky about it, as you and I did "pay" for that feature... Well, it came in an option package, so no choice unless you didn't want the whole package, which I did for the other features I use all the time..
Anyway, I still miss the high beams being a big button you pressed with your left foot under the parking brake pedal! :) :)

RE: Tanks on 5th wheel, how many and how do they work?
Well, there is no way to give you a tutorial thru words. No manual includes anything to tell you how the mechanicals function on any RV.
You will need to browse thru youtube videos for the best kind of 'free' help in the issues you have and just learn as you go!
I hope your situation improves as you move forward with the hand you are dealt..

RE: Trailer hitch with sway bars
If this is the style of HD setup you have, then the dealer is just being a d!$%..
https://i.imgur.com/78Gw7aO.jpg
This is what I have and it's over 22 years old and my dealer installed it and adjusted the hitch head height to match the new trailer tongue, which was higher then my old TT.
They did that job while I was going thru the walk thru of the trailer. Didn't charge me any extra $$ either..
All they had to do was put the stirrups on the trailer tongue and then adjust the hitch head to match, which was adjustable to begin with.
Maybe your hitch is not rated for the size of the new TT you got?
My WD hitch head is #14,000 with a #12,000 ball on it. The bars are #1000 rated so well within the specs of the new TT I got and still have and it all still works just fine..
Good luck! Mitch

RE: F53 Fuel filter removal tool won't fit?
If it's the first time to replace the filter, it could just be that the locks are stuck.. Spray some WD40 or your favorite penetrating spray on the ends to flush out the lock. Might need to do this several times to get any dirt out of there too.
Then insert the tool and get some needle nose pliers to help push it in at the same time pulling on the hose until it releases.
I had a 97 F150 with that style of fuel filter and I used the 'scissor' tool.
It was a PITA to do every time! Then you get all the gas that spills out when you finally get it off! :) So be prepared for that.
Good luck! Mitch

RE: Stabilizer jacks at home?
I would love to hear the actual stories of those that ended up with a twisted frame because they left their stabilizers down and got a flat tire.. Ha, ha..
But, I guess if you believe that, then you won't leave your stabilizers down in the first place..
Anyway, I always put mine down when I park it at home. Have not worried about getting a flat tire while it's parked. And even if it did, the other tire will take up the load. I know because I had 2 blowout recently and only 1 spare.. Limped to the tire store on 3 tires for about 10 miles..
I like the stable feeling of it when parked, as it gets unloaded and loaded with lots of trips back and forth. Plus I regularly check on it at least once a week, so it's just nice to have it stable.
That's just my story on it, but as others have said, it's whatever you are comfortable with doing just as in anything in life..
Good luck! Mitch

RE: Ball Height Adjustment Questions
For the high torque nuts, you will need to get a socket for that size. Likely around 1-1/8" and 1/2" drive. You will need a long breaker bar if you don't have a long handle torque wrench.
You won't need new nuts/bolts. Once you get that far, adjust accordingly.
If no torque wrench, just use your breaker bar and maybe even a 'cheater bar' on the end of that and tighten it up as much as you can without breaking the bar.. :)
Good luck! Mitch

RE: Discontinued control board
I had to get one for my brand new Dometic back in 2019. Costs a bit more now than it did back then.. I think I only paid $100 for it back then.. Got it from the Jungle store. Looks like it's still in stock if it's one of these model numbers.

RE: How do I fix carburetor / exhaust system on top of engine?
And be more descriptive. What was wrong before…what “part” got fixed…’cause I don’t see any new parts around the carb or ignition.
And what’s up with the booger green spray paint on the brake rotor dust shields?
That’s “custom” too.
I had to go back and look at that again! So many "Custom" things on that deal I can't imagine any shop would send that out the door after charging for 'fixing it'??
Had to be done by a prior "DIY Guy" and you bought the rig that way?
Good luck OP with it! Mitch

RE: Furrion appliances
It does seem to be going that direction for sure with the 12v fridges and all.. I like my gas/120v fridge. Does everything I need it to do..
I don't boondock, so my needs are different than a lot of others and I just know what has worked for me over the years..
Won't be getting any kind of "new" vehicle anytime soon... Will fix what I got and deal with it.. :)
